HH The Amir Issues Law on Unified Economic Register

His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani issued on Monday Law No. 14 of 2018 on the Unified Economic Register.

The Law defines the Unified Economic Register as a record in which economic enterprises and self-employed individuals are registered, and the economic establishment as an individual enterprise or company or entity engaged in any area of the economic sector.

Under the provisions of the law, a Unified Economic Register shall be established within the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in which the following are registered:
1. Qatari economic establishments and their branches, and branches of non-Qatari establishments operating in the country.
2. Those licensed to practice self-employment.

A number called "Unified Economic Number" shall be issued for any person registered in the Unified Economic Register and shall be used in all transactions and papers relating to his activity.

The competent department of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce shall determine the mechanism for regulating the Unified Economic Register and the procedures for registration and marking therein.

The law is effective and is to be published in the official gazette.
