His Highness Speech at the Arab Forum on Stolen Asset Recovery
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
My Brother, President Mohamed Moncef Marzouki,
My Brother, the Attorney-General Dr. Ali,
Your Excellencies,
Honorable audience,
I am pleased to welcome you at the beginning of the meetings of the Arab Forum on Stolen Asset Recovery. The State of Qatar is honored to host such an event.
The issue of stolen assets from countries around the world took a high priority on the international agenda, especially in the Arab Spring countries, which strive to recover their stolen national wealth to serve their peoples.
What we are witnessing now in this direction is an important turning point in the international attitude that everyone should take into account. The absence of international solidarity in the prosecution of such offenses had a significant impact in the exacerbation of this phenomenon and the worsening of its terrible effects on the economies of many countries and the spread of poverty and unemployment among their peoples.
Achieving the noble goals of the Forum requires concerted international efforts to make joint efforts in order to support the national efforts by relevant countries and to provide technical, legal and institutional frameworks to address this phenomenon.
There is no doubt that the measures taken by the international community represents an important step in this direction.
With regard to the State of Qatar’s support to this Forum, we are ready to support the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Centre to work on coordinating and following-up the decisions issued by this Forum and to fund its activities.
May Allah grant you success.
May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon you.
