HH The Amir Receives Message of Thanks from UN Secretary General
His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has received a message from HE the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, in which he expressed his sincere appreciation for the support of the State of Qatar to the United Nations during the novel Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), by establishing an air bridge from Doha to Kabul. HE the Secretary-General also expressed his gratitude to HH The Amir for facilitating the repositioning of some of the United Nations personnel in the Republic of Yemen.
In his message, HE the Secretary-General stated that the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service flights have enabled the access and deployment of emergency humanitarian aid to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, as well as the rotation of United Nations personnel.
In this regard, HE the Secretary General said, "The State of Qatar provided essential and timely support for the transit of personnel from of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement, as part of a temporary adjustment to our operations in Yemen."
HE the Secretary-General praised the support provided by the State of Qatar, saying that "with this exemplary support to the United Nations, Qatar has showcased the responsibility and solidarity which are critically needed in addressing the challenge of Covid-19."
At the end of his message, HE Antonio Guterres expressed his support for the efforts of HH The Amir in combating the pandemic, looking forward to work with His Highness to provide assistance to the countries in need.
