HH The Amir Meets the German Chancellor
His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with HE the German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and the accompanying delegation this afternoon on the side line of the Qatar-Germany Forum for Business and Investment in Berlin.
During the meeting they discussed means of enhancing the strategic cooperation between the two countries, especially in political, cultural, and economic fields.
HE the Chancellor expressed her gratitude to HH The Amir for the State of Qatar’s trust in the German economy, and His Highness announcement in the opening session of the Qatar-Germany Forum for Business and Investment of the State of Qatar intention to invest 10 billion Euros into the German economy over the next 5 years and opening the Qatari market to German companies, especially in the fields of construction of facilities.
The two sides also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments particularly on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, Syria, Libya and Palestine. His Highness and the Chancellor expressed their regret that some countries cut their aid to UNRWA which will have negative implications on millions of refugees, while emphasizing the continuation of their countries support for humanitarian issues.
With regard to Syria both sides warned of a humanitarian catastrophe in the event of renewed attacks on Idlib.
They also emphasized the importance of resolving the GCC crisis through dialogue for the stability of the region, and to take on a political approach for conflict resolution.
The meeting was attended by a number of their Excellencies members of the official delegation accompanying HH The Amir.
