HH The Amir and US President Hold Bilateral Meeting
His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani stressed that the State of Qatar does not and will not tolerate people who support and fund terrorism.
HH The Amir explained in statements to the media at the beginning of his bilateral meeting at the White House with HE President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, that the State of Qatar cooperates with the United States of America to stop the funding of terrorism around the region. HH The Amir said that the military cooperation between the two countries is solid and strong, reaffirming that Al Udeid Airbase is the heart of operations in fighting terrorism, and noting that it has been a very successful campaign against the terrorist groups in the region.
HH The Amir added that the Qatari-U.S. relations are strong and well established for more than 45 years, highlighting that the economic cooperation between the two countries is over $125 billion and the two countries are looking forward to double this cooperation in the coming years.
HH The Amir pointed out that his visit to the headquarters of the U.S. Central Command in the city of Tampa, was important and successful, where he met U.S. military leaders. HH The Amir said that the visit showed the strong cooperation between the two countries in military and security fields.
On the Gulf crisis, HH The Amir thanked HE the President for his personal efforts and important role in finding a solution to the crisis, praising HE the President's personal support to Qatar during the blockade. His Highness also extended thanks to the American people for their support to Qatar.
As for the Syrian issue, HH The Amir said that the State of Qatar and the United States are working together to put an immediate end to the suffering of the Syrian people. HH The Amir said that "this matter has to stop immediately," pointing out that the two countries will not allow cooperation with a war criminal who killed more than half a million of his own people, so this matter should end immediately.
HE the U.S. President welcomed HH The Amir and the accompanying delegation at the beginning of the meeting, and highlighted the strength of the personal relationship between him and HH The Amir even before the U.S. President entered the world of politics.
HH The Amir "is very popular in his country" and "his people love him," HE the U.S. President said, stressing the strength of strategic relations between Qatar and the United States and the continuous and excellent cooperation between the two countries.
HE the U.S. President added that he has been working with HH The Amir for a number of years before the counterterrorism operations, pointing out that it is important to stop the funding of terrorism in the region, especially in countries that are related to the United States, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other countries.
During the meeting, both sides discussed bilateral strategic relations between the two friendly countries and ways of boosting and developing them in the different fields, especially expanding cooperation in economy, investment and the military and defense fields.
The meeting also dealt with a number of current regional and international issues.
