HH the Amir Meets Russian President
His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Monday met at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
At the outset of the meeting, the Russian President welcomed HH The Amir and expressed his ambition to exert more efforts to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries, pointing to the pressing need to talk and coordinate in the field of energy, particularly gas as well as investment cooperation. He also expressed his hope to reach settlements for crises in the region.
For his part, HH The Amir voiced his pleasure at the visit and his gratitude to President Putin and the Russian government and people for the hospitality, highlighting the mutual coordination between the two countries in the past years and hoping that it would constitute a strong basis for moving towards a more progressive phase than before.
HH The Amir explained that there are mutual ties in the field of energy and gas, noting that Qatar and Russia are members in the Gas Exporting Countries Forum and that there are positive ties in the investment field between Qatar Investment Authority and the Russian Direct Investment Fund.
HH added that he and the Russian President will discuss the situation in the Middle East, the recent developments, and regional problems, highlighting Russia's vital and significant role in global stability. HH said that the two countries are trying "to find settlements of the problems as far as stability in certain countries of our region is concerned."
HH The Amir voiced his confidence that this visit will contribute to promoting bilateral relations between the two countries and achieving more joint cooperation as well as develop bilateral cooperation and consultation on the different issues and developments in the region.
During the meeting, His Highness and the Russian President discussed a set of regional and international issues of common concern and exchanged points of views towards developments in the region on the political and security fronts. In the same context, they reviewed the situation in Syria, Palestine, Yemen, and Libya and agreed to reach settlements that serve stability and security of the region and the safety of its peoples.
In addition, the meeting reviewed means of promoting bilateral relations between the two countries on all fronts and aspects of developing them to serve the mutual interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.
A number of members of the official delegation accompanying HH The Amir attended the meeting. A group of Russian ministers were also present.
